"Connie worked hard to pass clean water environmental legislation to help secure funding to restore Springbrook Nature Center, a place I grew to love as a kid." -Brielle Bernardy
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Everyday I am reminded how precious clean water is to all of us.My family lived next to a industrial site that was contaminated and my parents worked in factories in our community that are now being cleaned up. This sparked a lifetime commitment in me for protecting our environment and water.
When storm water and pollutant runoff threatened the wetlands, plants, and animals at Springbrook Nature Center, I brought together Republicans and Democrats to pass clean water funding that helped our community restore the Springbrook wetlands. It was the first urban wetland restoration of its kind in America.
Working tirelessly together, this year we secured $5 million to restore and enhance Springbrook Nature Center. These funds will ensure this community treasure will be natural showcase for children, families, and senators for years to come. Springbrook is a family friendly area precious to our community. There is still much work to be done. I will continues to work with my colleagues and community on the toxic-free kids act, clean water, and soil initiatives. Working together, we can protect our environment and drinking water for future generations and care for our lakes, rivers, and wetlands.
